Edward Timpson MP visits new homes in Cheshire
New affordable homes in rural Cheshire have been welcomed by Eddisbury Member of Parliament, Edward Timpson CBE KC, during a visit to two of our new local developments.
The Trust showed Mr Timpson around new low-rise apartment blocks that provide 20 maisonette-style homes for affordable rent in the popular Cheshire village of Tarporley. Edward praised the open green spaces in the £2.2 million development, which new residents are enjoying in the warm weather. There are electric vehicle charging points, bike storage, and solar panels to ensure the homes are fit for a greener future. The recently-completed scheme, construction of which began in September 2021, has been part-funded by Homes England, and brings much-needed affordable housing to the area. The Trust worked closely with Tarporley Parish Council to ensure the homes meet the needs of local people. The development is part of Weaver Vale’s commitment to delivering new affordable homes across Cheshire and Warrington.
Mr Timpson then also viewed the development site of 12 new affordable homes acquired by Weaver Vale Housing Trust at the former site of Beeston Cattle Market, near Tarporley. These much-needed homes will form part of a more extensive Eaton Homes development of 84 homes, with work set to start on the same site at the end of the year. On completion, seven of the homes will be available for affordable rent, and five for shared ownership - a scheme which will help people get a foot on the housing ladder by allowing them to purchase a percentage of their home, and pay rent on the remaining share.
Gareth Rigby, Executive Director of Place at Weaver Vale Housing Trust, said:
“We are committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes in Cheshire, and it’s been a privilege to see people putting roots down as they move into Tarporley.
“Sustainability is also a significant priority for us, so these eco-friendly homes have been built to be enjoyed by future generations.
“It all points to our passion at the Trust for building back fairer to tackle inequalities in our area.
“We’ve particularly enjoyed introducing Edward to tenants enjoying their new homes, and also showing him the new development site at Beeston Market. We look forward to work getting underway there later in the year.”
Edward Timpson CBE KC, Member of Parliament for Eddisbury, said:
“I’m pleased to see the progress made by Weaver Vale Housing Trust on the old Beeston Cattle Market site, and, in particular, the provision of new affordable homes with proper amenities for families—such as the new playground I was fortunate to open.
“The reinstatement of the Beeston & Tarporley Railway Station that I am sponsoring in Parliament will not only enhance connectivity for the occupiers of these new homes, but also provide crucial access to the jobs and services available in Chester, Crewe and beyond, to new and existing residents alike.
“By bringing back our railway station, we’re not only improving transportation options, but also ensuring the seamless integration of this new housing, reducing its impact on road traffic, and creating a vibrant and connected community for all residents.
“It is a significant step towards building a sustainable and thriving future for Tarporley. And I am grateful to Weaver Housing for inviting me to see part of it!”
